VAN GOGH GALLERY:
One particular artist is leading the contemporary impressionists in an effort to become "America's Vincent Van Gogh"... Stefan Duncan! Duncan's amazing work is a plethora of brilliant colors tossed about in a whimisical style he calls Squigglism. Having been greatly influenced by Vincent Van Gogh, Stefan utilizes this updated technique to draw the quick strokes of the impressionists into long curvy lines. These tight eddies of color dance around his paintings lighting every feature with beauty! It is this very beauty that Stefan strives to capture in all of his work; revealing the divine in nature!

Stefan's work continues to amaze me and it gives me great pleasure to be able to show it to the rest of the world. Each painting is Neo-Gogh while still presenting the signature style of Duncan. These paintings are a gift to all who love Vincent Van Gogh and a perfect representation of greatness! I look forward to each new painting created by Duncan as his ability to present beauty continues to grow!

New Gallery Crawl Destination
Java Passage Cafe' and America's Van Gogh

There's a new destination on South End's Gallery Crawl. Java Passage Cafe', behind EQ3 at South Boulevard and Magnolia, joins the monthly magnification of public displays of art in Charlotte's Historic South End District.

Their mutual love of Impressionism led Java Passage Cafe' owners, Debra and Bob Delano to choose America's Van Gogh as the first of many artist they will bring to South End. Among contemporary impressionists, Stefan Duncan has been named the American Van Gogh by David Wolk of Van Gogh Gallery. "Van Gogh's work opened my eyes to the Divine in nature," says Stefan, who creates what he calls "Living Spirit Art." After studying Van Gogh, up close and personal, across the universe, Stefan emerged with his own style called Squigglism; a Van Gogh dash with a twist, representing a unit of the Divine that exists in everything. Stefan's paintings act as special lenses, of which to view the world. Using symbols from Celtic, Native American , and Greek cultures, along with trees, water, clouds, and other elements of nature, Stefan's paintings reveal the Divine, and its powerful overtures in all that exists. December Issue 2005

WCNC - 6 in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Stefan Duncan

Artist Stefan Duncan will exhibit 20 paintings at the WCNC - 6 TV Studio in Charlotte, NC, through Dec. 31, 2005.

"Many  who have now seen Duncan's works, hail him as one of the most important artists of the 21st century,"  said Caroline York, president of Caroline York World of Art.

Duncan, who has dedicated his life to the study of the master impressionists, such as Van Gogh, Monet, Seurat, and Pissarro, is forging his own style called Squigglism - Living Spirit Art. "It's a Van Gogh dash with a twist," Duncan said.

With this style, Duncan strives to unveil the Divine essence in nature, a living spirit of jubilation. It is the opening of the eyes to see the Divine Essence not only in nature around us, but in us, connecting us with all. Nature is depicted in a living state of joyous celebration and serenity.

"It was Van Gogh's Starry Night that opened my eyes to the glorious cosmic forces in nature. It is my hope to fully rise the blinds, letting the essence of the Divine be fully exposed, revealing the serenity and universal love one can find in nature," Duncan said.

The Van Gogh Gallery is taking three of Duncan's paintings to show as an artist of the 21st Century whose work has been impacted by Van Gogh's art.

"My mission is to place a painting in the living room of families, right in the center of their daily lives. When they are worried about bills, wondering about the next meal, maybe stewing during a marital spat, they glimpse the painting and whether conscious or unconscious the painting gives them a little bit of serenity. They are reminded, as stated in a William Wordsworth poem, of where we have been and where we will return. I've done my job then," Duncan said.

Duncan paints an average of 12 hours a day straight out of the tubes, not mixing colors, but putting them side by side. As one steps back, the colors blend into a natural effect.

Duncan was born in Fayetteville, NC. He has degrees in English, Art, and a doctorate concentrated in Ancient Religions. He teaches at the Charlotte Art League; Michael's at University City in Charlotte; Cape Fear Studios in Fayetteville; Books-A-Millon in Roch Hill, SC; and at Methodist College in Fayetteville, through the Recreation Department.

"I teach a simple four step approach that is used with drawing and painting. My main goal though is to help students find their own voice and advance their work to be shown in galleries," Duncan said.

Duncan's paintings are shown at the Charlotte Art League, The Carolina Metrolina, Cape Fear Studios and Ole Town Gallery of Fayetteville.
